Meet Courtney Barnett

courtney barnett

You’ll like Courtney Barnett if you like: Cate le Bon, Angel Olsen, Lily Allen

When Courtney would be played in a film: The angsty, misfit teenager walks through the hallways of his suburban American high school, and out onto the quad on a sunny spring day.

Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer-songwriter who writes poetic, observational songs that describe modern day to day life. Her vocal range stays considerably monotone, and like a Leonard Cohen or Bob Dylan, her true talent lies in her writing. The combination of the stripped down melodies, strong lyrics and guitar give Barnett a raw, refreshing sound.

Her most recent album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit (2015), brings in lot more rock n’ roll than her previous album, A Sea of Split Peas.

Our favorite songs from Barnett are Anonymous Club, Avant GardenerDepreston, and An Illustration of Loneliness (Sleepless in New York).

Anonymous Club conjures up feelings of warm, special nights spent with your best pals, where there’s no place you would rather be.

Her record label Milk Records created music videos for all of these songs, amazing! Enjoy!
