Our NOS Alive picks – Young Fathers
“Nothing but a bare faced lie is all you cunts can hold on to” – these words are part of the song that is going to get stuck in your head for the next days when you listen to it (find video below)
Young Fathers are a hip hop and pop group based in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2014, they won the Mercury Prize for their debut album Dead.
In April 2015, they released White Men Are Black Men Too. The band explains about the title, “It’s a positive thing, because it’s based on quality,” and they pointed to the make-up of the band as being part of the same ethos: “On stage, it’s two white guys, two black guys and even that’s a statement in itself. It’s tackling a lot of associations with colour and race.” So does their music – an open-ended and wild mash of global sonic and lyrical styles that Glastonbury ears are hearing for the second time in 2015.
Don’t miss them at NOS Alive 2015 in Portugal
