Sharon Van Etten’s new EP is out
Sharon Van Etten’s new EP ‘I Don’t Want To Let You Down’ is out now on Jagjaguwar, and the American lady behind one of last year’s best albums (‘Are We There’) seems to have done it again.
Comprising five songs, this EP acts in a way as a relief. It’s a complex cloud of mixed feelings and memories built around wrecked relationships, sometimes the ones we have with ourselves. It’s about the choices we make and our mistakes and longings for that little and elusive comfort zones we sometimes find among others. It varies between the momentous track that lends its title to the album and the intimate and naked piano on ‘I Always Fall Apart’, where the singer’s voice rises to admit her own weaknesses and flaws. But it all wraps up with a live rendition of ‘Tell Me’ captured last year at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in Barcelona… That’s when the sensitive listener will cease to resist and will end up believing Sharon, lamenting quietly her stories, probably similar to our own ones, only to let some hope filter through the cracks of the sung lyrics.
