Your childhood heroes are back
If you weren’t born in, say, the ’00’s – could you contain yourself when seeing this bit of the Superbowl half time show? Missy Elliot, looking better than ever has clearly been practicing her moves while we have been praying for her comeback since her last album dropped in 2005 (despite appearing on the odd song). Because we all did get a bit excited and nostalgic watching the show, Missy’s digital sales increased 2,500% almost overnight. Here’s one for how much you missed her, or if you don’t know who Missy is, we’re sure you know this tune of the Queen of the golden days of hip-hop and R&B.
Another one of our guilty pleasures from back in the days is TLC! T-Boz and Chilli are back and ready to hit the studio again without their beloved Lisa “Left-eye” Lopes, who died in a car accident in 2002. They reached out to the Kickstarter community to fund the recording of their new album and reached their $150,000 goals within 45 hours. Amongst pledgers are the New kids on the block, Katy Perry and Tunemunch (all in one breath). We had never really gotten over the fact that in the pre-internet era, we didn’t make it to the booklet of “Fanmail”, so now we can.
And last but not least, our baby daddy D’Angelo. Even though D’Angelo gained a few, we get butterflies all over again when he sings his sweet honey notes on “Black Messiah”. After 10 years of silence, disturbing stories and mug shots, D’Angelo is back and sounding better than ever. This is where we fell in love in 2000.
